Adenomatoid Tumors

Abstract
Adenomatoid tumor is a relatively uncommon solid neoplasm of a benign nature peculiar to the genital tracts in both male and female and characterized by distinctive adenomatous microscopic appearance, although it is not glandular origin but considered to be mesothelial cell origin.
Herein reported were two cases occured in the lower pole of the epididymis in a 33 year old male and in the posterior wall of the fundic portion of the uterus in a 34 year old female. Laboratory and chest X-ray findings of the two cases were within normal limits. The gross findings of the former case exhibited relatively well circumscribed and yellowish white firm nodule with smooth surface, measuring 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.Ocm. Cut surface showed yellowish white and somewhat microcystic appearance. No hemorrhage and necrosis was seen. Epididymis was nearly replaced by tumor tissue. The gross findings of the latter case exhibited enlarged uterus, measuring 7.5 x 10 x 4.5cm. Cut surface exhibited a relatively well circumscribed mass with grayish white trabecular appearance, measuring 3 x 3cm. In the posterior wall of the myometrium. Cervix and endometrium are grossly unremarkable. Histologically two neoplasms revealed basically indentical microscopic features, showing variable sized anastomosing spaces lined by flatteded, cuboidal cells with plump eosinophilic cytoplasm and hobnail appearance, arranged in tubular or canalicular pattern. Both tumors were not encapsulated and showed infiltrating appearance to the surrounding normal tissue but tumor cells were benign. In areas were seen hyalinized vascular channels and lymphocytic infiltration in the periphery of the tumor. A brief review of literature pertinent to these cases was done.
